Storage Bytes, Pixel Dimensions, and Print DPI

File size is the number of bytes needed to store an image. Pixel dimensions describe its width and height in pixels. A 2000×1500 image has 3,000,000 pixels whether its JPEG file is 250 KB or 2 MB. DPI is resolution information used in printing. Changing this metadata alone does not add pixels or improve detail. This tool adjusts pixel dimensions and actual encoded file size; it does not set a required print DPI.

Calculating 500 KB and Portal Safety Margins

Here, 500 KB means 500,000 bytes. In comparison, 500 KiB means 512,000 bytes. A file at or below 500,000 bytes is within both size ceilings. Choosing 480 KB leaves 20,000 bytes below a 500 KB limit. A portal may require strictly less than its limit or check pixel dimensions and file format as well, so reducing file size alone cannot guarantee acceptance.

Safe Preparation and Inspection Workflow

Always safeguard your original high-resolution photo before initiating modifications. Begin by reviewing the portal stated constraints: maximum file size, permitted file formats, and maximum bounding dimensions. Enter your maximum allowed width and height boundaries into the tool rather than guessing exact portrait dimensions. After processing, closely inspect the resulting byte count and image clarity to verify that critical facial contours or fine printed text remain distinct and sharp.

Compression Boundaries and Official Constraints

Browser-based image compression resizes pixel dimensions and adjusts encoding quantization; it does not automatically crop, center, or validate facial composition, eye levels, or background neutrality. Furthermore, this tool never promises official passport acceptance or exact DPI metadata injection.
